Greater Calumet Area USBC Bowling Association

A Griffith man fired a 770 in the team event at Lan Oak Lanes in Lansing on Feb. 19 to propel himself into the Greater Calumet Area USBC Bowling Association Championships All-Events title. John Verbich, a powerful left-hander who bowls regularly at Plaza Lanes in Highland, fired a 2,135 scratch pinfall for nine games to claim the scratch and handicap titles.
In the team event, Lubash No. 4, with John Lubash Jr., Tim Croy, Mike Kubacki and Rick Woloszyn, claimed the scratch and handicap team titles.
In singles, Portage bowler Don Draia, who bowls in the Olympia Lanes Majors at the Hammond bowling center, claimed the the scratch and handicap singles events with an 816 bowled the tournament's first day, Feb.12, at Plaza Lanes in Highland.
The 2005 Doubles event champion, Eugene McCune, of Munster, successfully defended his title, but with a new partner. McCune (739) and Kevin Mikalouski (801) won the handicap and scratch ends of the competition with 1,540 scratch and 1,561 handicap.
