The Greater Calumet Area USBC Bowling Association's 83rd annual championships started Sunday at Lynwood Bowl, in Lynwood, Ill., and and Stardust III, Dyer, with a handful of award scores.
Leading the highlights was John Riffle's 280-279-278/837 series in the Singles event at Stardust III and the 300 games of Tony Miller and Bill Ingram at Stardust III.
While Riffle, of Highland, is leading the Pins Over Average Singles event with a Plus-138 score to Dyer bowler Dave Bohlin's Plus 74 (731 Actual) and Curt Jensen's 748 Actual, Miller has the widest lead in any division after the first day.
Miller's 2,205 actual 9-game total is 95 pins up on Ron Johnson Sr., of Griffith. He fired a 2,110 all-events total, which included the top score in the team event, a 743 series.
The championships continue Feb. 18 and 25 at Lynwood Bowl and Stardust III. Openings remain for the tournnament. Call the Greater Calumet office at (219) 923-7240 for reservations and information.
